2014 52 in 52

Although I was going to post goals for this year, I hadn't planned on doing the 52 in 52 again this year. I failed so miserably at it last year that I thought I better not try again this year. But after looking at the goals I was setting for this year, many of them were the same, and I did get to SOME of the goals from last year and that is better than nothing. So even if my 52 in 52 list doesn't get completed (or even half completed) at least I will get something accomplished!!!

I found this idea over at Kincavel Corner. Here is a link to her 52 in 52 list.

52 in 52 Revamped

This 52 in 52 was a great idea, I'm just really not good at sticking with my goals:) And it was starting to stress me out. I've decided that instead of stressing about it, because this was to be a fun way of getting more done this year, not a bunch of chores that HAD to get done, I'm going to revamp my list and break it down to what I really want to get done.

The original blogger who came up with this idea is Lady Kell at Kencavel Korner.

In the Kitchen (or to do with food)
1. Figure out an all purpose and a baking blend of gf flours that I can make myself (0/2)
2. Find a good gf bread recipe that I can handle eating:)
3. Can or freeze 4 new food items that I've never done before (0/4)
4. Can the equivalent of 30 quarts of food (0/30)
5. Make 3 new recipes a month (11/36)
6. Try 6 new kinds of chocolate (2/6)
7. Grow and eat from our garden

I decided to get rid of all the 'Kitchen' goals. The garden didn't get put in, and won't at this point, maybe next year, and I REALLY don't need more chocolate:)

Charity/Community Service
8. Volunteer to help out at County Fair- Will do in July
9. Community service project with 4-H group - Done
10. 6 stitched blocks for Love Quilts USA (2/6) Might be able to get one more done
11. 8 crochet items to give away (0/8) Maybe 2 as I have 2 toddler size blankets in the works.
12. 4 quilted items to give away (0/4)
13. 2 dolls/stuffed animals to give away (0/2) I'd still like to do this for Operation Christmas Child

Some of this one is done and I can see a few more things being able to get finished, so I'll keep some of this.

Sewing/Crafting/Stitching
14. Finish stitching 10 current x-stitch projects (3/10) At this point I'd be happy with 5
15. Participate in 2 x-stitch exchanges (2/2) - Done
16. Participate in 2 round robins (1/2) We will see.
17. Participate in 10 IHSW (4/10)  On target for this
18. Learn to sew a doll or stuffed animal. Still want to keep.
19. Learn 6 new crochet stitches (0/6) HAHAHAHA - Okay, maybe 2 new stitches:)
20. Learn to knit - beginner
21. Sew curtains for living room - Really need to do this one
22. Choose and create 6 Pinterest projects (5/6) Almost done
23. Finish a quilt for us  - Getting closer

Most of these will stay the same with a little modification. I thought about keeping the knitting one as I would like to take a local class, but I think I'll wait until next year.

Health and Wellness
24. Lose 30 lbs (0/30) Well, I've gained, not lost, but I will still be working at this.
25. Exercise 4 days per week (10/208)
26. Walk a total of at least 300 miles (4/300)
27. Bike a total of at least 200 miles (0/200)
28. Buy good tennis shoes - Ended up with lace-up boots that will protect my ankles better.
29. Buy a good bike seat

No excuses for this, but it just won't get done like I wrote it. I will think of a new goal for this as I need to not drop it all together.

Art and Photography
30. Spend time drawing each week (1/52)
31. Fill up 1 sketch book with drawings and practice pages
32. Take photos every other week (2/26)
33. Take a photo to the county fair

As good as this sounds, it's just not that important to me right now.

Reading/Education
34. Read 18 books for fun (1/18)
35. Read 12 books to learn from (0/12)
36. Read through the Bible
-Started using YouVersion app for a chronilogical 1 year plan

Same here, just not a priority for me.

Blogging
37. Double my monthly readership (1000/1000)
38. Triple my blog followers (89/42)
39. Blog on every WIPocalypse (3/12)
40. Blog on every TUSAL (3/12)

I've pretty much done this, except I think I missed blogging the two SALs in April due to family medical issues.

Family Fun
41. Go camping 2 times (0/2)
42. Go on 3 day trips (0/3)
43. Take dd to a pool (public) 4 times (0/4)
44. Take dd to the movies 3 times (0/3)
45. Take dd to a play or ballet
46. Take dd skating
47. Take at least 4 photos of dd each month (9/48)

I still plan to do as much of this as possible. I've been saving back all our change and have around $100 to go towards our "Summer Fun' fund. I don't think my dd will let me get away with not doing at least some of these:)

Christmas Time
48. Hand craft at least 6 Christmas gifts (0/6) Maybe 2?
49. Send out Christmas cards
50. Come up with one new Christmas tradition
51. Make 2 scrapbooks of dd's pictures from the year to give to Grandparents
and 1 for ourselves (0/3) Hmm, not sure on this one either
52. Stitch and finish 6 Christmas ornaments (0/6) I think I can still do this one, I've stitched a couple, but haven't finished them yet.

Looks like most of this will stay the same as well.

I'll put up a new list in the next day or so without all the extra goals that won't get done and see how that looks to me:)

52 in 52 update

It's been a bit over a month now since the New Year, so I thought I would catch everyone up on how I'm coming along with my 52 in 52 goals...

In the Kitchen (or to do with food)1. Figure out an all purpose and a baking blend of gf flours that I can make myself (0/2)
2. Find a good gf bread recipe that I can handle eating:) Haven't done this yet, but did find a 'whole grain' gf bread made by kinikinnik that I do like pretty well.
3. Can or freeze 4 new food items that I've never done before (0/4)
4. Can the equivalent of 30 quarts of food (0/30)
5. Make 3 new recipes a month (5/36) Some were really good, others a flop. I will do a recipe post later this month to show off the ones that were winners.
6. Try 6 new kinds of chocolate (2/6) Godiva was GREAT!! Can't believe I hadn't had that before. Black and Green's was not great. First because I'm not a super dark chocolate fan, and one that I tried of theirs was 85% - nasty!!! But even the mint that was 65% dark was bitter and not smooth at all. I did like that theirs is organic, but not enough to eat it again:)
7. Grow and eat from our garden

17. Participate in 10 IHSW (1/10)
18. Learn to sew a doll or stuffed animal

20. Learn to knit - beginner
21. Sew curtains for living room
22. Choose and create 6 Pintrest projects (0/6)
23. Finish a quilt for us

Health and Wellness
24. Lose 30 lbs (0/30) I don't want to start the 30 lbs until I re-lose the 10 I lost last year :( - good news is that I have already lost 5 of that:)
25. Exercise 4 days per week (2/208) The ankle is holding me back a bit, but I have started doing a little.
26. Walk a total of at least 300 miles (.5/300) Yep, still the ankle
27. Bike a total of at least 200 miles (0/200)

40. Blog on every TUSAL (1/12)

Family Fun
41. Go camping 2 times (0/2) Most of these will be summer activities
42. Go on 3 day trips (0/3)
43. Take dd to a pool (public) 4 times (0/4)
44. Take dd to the movies 3 times (0/3)
45. Take dd to a play or ballet
46. Take dd skating
47. Take at least 4 photos of dd each month (3/48) Doing better with this.

Christmas Time
48. Hand craft at least 6 Christmas gifts (0/6)
49. Send out Christmas cards
50. Come up with one new Christmas tradition
51. Make 2 scrapbooks of dd's pictures from the year to give to Grandparents
and 1 for ourselves (0/3)
52. Stitch and finish 6 Christmas ornaments (0/6) Got one stitched now, but not finished.

I really like having this all written out and going over it every few weeks as it keeps goals fresh in my mind and lets me see, for good or for bad, how I am doing. There are a couple goals on here that I probably won't complete, like drawing, but maybe I will get to it a time or two, and that's better than not at all:)

Anyone else set goals for themselves this year? How are your goals coming along?

Week 1 Update of 52 in 52

I can't believe the first week of 2013 has already come and gone. You'd think since I've pretty much been stuck at home for a few weeks now that time would just crawl on by. Actually I kind-of like being home so much, dd isn't as happy about it:) Yesterday the Dr said things are looking good and to come back in a couple weeks with my other shoe!!! So I'm hoping that means that I'll at least be in a smaller brace, maybe no brace at all. Either way it should mean that I will be able to drive again. That is such happy news to our daughter. She is ready to resume her crazy schedule:)

Okay, so I've done some of my 52 in 52 really well, but on a few things I'm already behind.

We'll go down the list...

Kitchen/food goals

We tried a new recipe for smoke beef roast (I'll update the top page with a link to the recipe as soon as I can find it:). This was the best beef roast we have ever had!!!

I have also tried a new-to-me brand of chocolate. It is from Green and Black's and can be found at grocery stores like Walmart. I got 85% and the mint, but have only tried the dark so far. I need more time before I can comment. I'm not a dark chocolate kind of girl, and this was intense for me, so I'm just not sure how I feel about it.

Charity/Community Service

Nothing completed on this section. I am working on 2 toddler blankets and on a LoveQuilt block.

Sewing/Crafting/Stitching

I got one of my older cross stitch projects completed.
I've started on a round robin project and will be doing the first mailing off at the end of this month.
I signed up for a stitchy exchange.
So I did get a bit done with this one:)

Health and Wellness

Umm, well, walking and biking are kind of out right now:) I am trying, by way of diet to lose a couple pounds that would get me back down to where I was after I lost that 10lbs last year:) Then I will start on the 30lbs I want to lose this year!!

Art and Photography

Nope, nothing here either. Hoping to draw a little bit today or Friday as the weather has warmed up a bit and I may talk my daughter into going outside to do some drawing as well:)

Reading/Education

I am almost finished with my first 'for fun' book and plan to start an 'educational' book afterwards about Mediterranean Eating. I also started a chronological reading plan of the Bible and have done well with that.

Nothing yet of 'Family Fun' or 'Christmas Time'.

There is a couple of goals that I was to do weekly with a total of 52 by the end of the year - like with the drawing and photos of our daughter. I will allow myself to make up for those weeks that I miss so long as the total does in-fact equal 52 in the end. Hopefully I'll be able to update this each week so long as I have enough progress:)

So did anyone else set goals for themselves this year? How are you doing with your goals?

A New Year with new goals

Really, time must be going by faster as I get older. Even my 13 year old daughter said it feels the same to her. She says she wants to grow up, but she doesn't want her childhood to go away so fast. Smart girl!!

It sure feels weird to not be participating in the Crazy January 15 project challenge. I've done that for the past 2 years and it is a lot of fun, but I have so many projects left over from the past couple years, that I felt that I really had no business doing it again. At least not until I found some order with the WIPs and UFOs that I currently have to work on.

But I did manage to find several different challenges and SALs to keep me busy this year and to give me plenty to blog about.

This year I will participate in...

TUSAL - I'm doing this again since it really did turn out to be fun:) Lots of pretty colors all collected in a jar just makes me happy.

WIPocalypse - Well, we survived through the Mayan prediction (really did anyone think this was real?), but we still have piles of projects to work on, so on to another year of really trying to get those WIPs done!!!

IHSW - This is a weekend dedicated to staying home and stitching!! Sounds like a dream come true, doesn't it? Don't have that luxury? (does anyone have that luxury?) That's okay, just stitch as much as you can and blog about it the following Monday (even if it's only a few stitches).

52 in 52 - I really love this idea. I posted about this a couple weeks ago, but I have made a few changes since. I have a page dedicated to this project with a tab at the top of this page. I'll blog about it here and there, but for a total accumulation of my progress I will keep that page updated all year long.

Stash diet - The goal here is to just stitch from the stash you already have. You can set further goals and 'prizes' for yourself such as I will allow myself $3.00 worth of new stash for every chart I finish. Other are doing it differently. Not sure how I'll do on this one. I thought I would go binge shopping before the beginning of the year and get some of it out of my system before starting the 'diet', but after breaking my ankle, I wasn't able to visit the LNS. I did buy one project on-line that is for a round robin I'm doing with a few other stitchy ladies.

Because my 52 in 52 project incorporates so many differing kinds of goals, I'm not doing any other aspirations/resolutions. I'm really excited to see the progress I can make on all these challenges. Please feel free to question my progress and cheer me on from time to time (like mid May when I tend to try hiding in a hole for the rest of the summer:).

What challenges and/or goals are you planning to work towards this year?

52 Things in 52 Weeks

After searching the web to find some challenges to do next year, I came across Kincavelkorner (aka Lady Kell's) blog and her post '52 Things in 52 Weeks'  For this challenge Lady Kell has come up with 52 weeks' worth of goals for the 2013 year. Everything from reading goals and crafty goals, to weight loss goals and time with the kiddo too. I think this is a really awesome idea as it incorporates a challenge with list making, and really the only way I get anything done is to make a list and challenge myself to get it done:)

I posted on her site that I would also join in. Most of my ideas are my own, but I did steal a few, and one of my ideas is exactly opposite of hers (she wanted to stay away from chocolate for a time, I would like to eat more - though varieties that I haven't had before:). LOL

I will create a tab on top of this page, so that a running tally can always be found, and I'll update this throughout the year. To be clear, this isn't a list to do in any particular order, some of these items will take all year and some can be done very quickly. I also will be doing this in lieu of any yearly aspirations/resolutions as it really does incorporate anything I'd aspire to do anyway:0)

So here is my list...
